AS: Fool of the Year

Silvio Berlusconi, Italy's richest man who owns three of the country's largest private TV stations, the country's leading daily, and dozens of other news outlets is about to be defeated after one term in office.
The Bangkok news reports:
An exit poll for state television Rai gave support for Prodi's coalition at between 50 and 54 per cent compared to 45-49 per cent for Berlusconi's centre-right alliance.
For his colossal bungling of a public image - controlled in no small part by his media empire - Silvio Berlusconi is awarded the Art Slob Fool of the Year award. Berlusconi is the sad and lonely form of fool who has neither the wit to dissemble his nature in the public eye, nor the fool's craft of eluding the consequences of his actions. Your lack of artistry gave us no light into our own foolishness, preferring the sun to shine only for yourself. We are no wiser at your passing, only grateful that you're gone.

Congratulations, Fool!

Dear ArtSlob,

(On the subject of blogging) - Oh you boys up to your military night raids - but your comments on Berlesconi - are you just mouthing the popular leftist marching songs or are you an expert on Italian politics? Do you need to be a whited sepulchre of the Brahmin class to be a good leader? I rather enjoy a politician who's not afraid to poke a few sacred cows. After all his comments on the UN were right on. His remarks on Mussilini(sic) were wrong but how many lefties continue to make fascist remarks with no comment by the world today? Eh? Come on art slob, don't go carrying pictures of chairman Mao on me now.

First of all, if Chairman Mao was good enough for Richard Nixon then I guess he's good enough for me.

What the hell else did you write about?...

The only thing I know about Berlesconi is that he's a jackass in particular. But, I don't wanna go and saddle a dead donkey.

The only marching music these days (other than the great Burlington Teen Tour Band - not sorry for the plug) is snare drum. Left? That whole left/right thing never worked for me. You must be thinkin' of somebody else. Not that I necessarily have a problem with war (under conditions I can't remember at this moment).

Next... Yeah, I'm as ignorant about the UN as you can get. So I'm not gonna comment about that.

"How many Commies does it take to make a Right Wing remark?" I don't know: Two Commies and a problem.

Berlesconi is all the things you say. I couldn't agree with you more. Thought of praising him. It was April Fools Issue, though, and Art Slob had to make some hard decisions.

It was either him or you, Crazy Talk. I don't know if I should blog to praise that jackass then bury him, or just bury him. Bury him.

P.S. They were panty raids.

P.P.S. Thanks for the exchange, Anon. Closing this wing of the castle now until July. Have a great Spring!
