ArtStar TV
Well, it seems cable TV figures there's a reality show in finding the most promising no-name artists in New York City.
Not sure how it would work. The website is short on details and the media photo makes the kookie artsy kids and token fogie out as the usual eccentric suspects. I mean even the seated guy with suit and tie has a sorta squareness that extends into the 5th dimension.
As I've matured (and graduated from art school), I now realize such gear generally indicates a phony poser. Be all crazy on the outside, screaming to the uncaring world, "I'M AN ARTIST!!!" as a form of cheap self-promotion.
They look like a bunch of clowns. Can this be the true NYC art scene? Why do they have to look so ridiculous? And why can't they all just wear crotchless sheepskin chaps? They're so cozy.

Of course they're a bunch of clowns. "Reality TV" is a far cry from "documentary". Real artists - the kind who lead relatively unglamourous lives with insightful intelligence and regular clothing - are likely not considered "edgy" enough for prime time.
I'm guessing that a show like this would focus on the personalities, not the art. I think I'll stick to those artist profile mini-docs they air on Bravo and CBC. They portray the work and the philosophies behind the work, and they generally ignore silly girls with ratty pink hair who wear socks on their forearms.
That's too funny. A
nd too true.
That's why I laugh.
Why the obsession with NYC? Oh yes. I get it.
Another loser Canadian desperately trying to cover up innate lack of talent by pointing fingers at the big world.
Then again, Canada is world renowned for art...not.
Come to think of it, just what is Canada known for? Ice? Brain drain of the best and brightest to the USA?
Don't worry. I won't be back to piss on your imaginary Toronto "aren't we clever" imaginary universe.
For one thing, I just ran out of piss.
Garth
Garth baby,
To be honest all I know about the NYC art world is what I see in the glamour reception photos of the big art openings available on-line.
I'm not pointing my finger (if you refer to me) at NYC in general. I'm poking fun at the TV production company's promotional photo and the wardrobe of the contestants.
I doubt the contestants shown serve as a representative sample of the larger NYC art world population. I give that great city more credit than merely producing these cartoon character versions of artists.
These stereotypes exist everywhere and serve to distract from the artistic product itself. Bullshit and shiny objects dazzle and confuse. I'm just tired of the crap.
Thanks for the comment, Garth.
Gee really, Garth won't be back?
How disappointing. I'm so entertained when people get really defensive over something they *think* they might have read, and then resort to childish insults and xenophobic comments in order to express themselves in an enlightened fashion.
I'm very sad that Garth didn't leave a URL for his blog, so we can all learn how to think the amazing things that HE thinks.
"Aren't we clever?" indeed.
I bet he will be back.

Was that an invitation?
Garth
See? I told you so.
It was more of an observation than an invitation, Garth, but it's lovely to see you again.
Yeah, Garth!
What else you got?
*yawns*
